Before this turns smutty, I'm not talking about that kind of 'hot', alright?! Last year we went to Turkey in the height of the season - August. Temperatures soared into the 40's and if that weren't hot enough, we decided to take the children to a traditionally Turkish restaurant to sample some local cuisine. It turns out, that the Turks are rather fond of their spices; in particular, chilli!
Firstly, let me explain: the OH likes to encourage our children to experience different flavours and hot, spicy food is a penchant of his (that lets me off the hook!). Towards the end of the main course, he challenged them to eat a whole chilli - not just any old chilli, the kind that we might find in our British supermarkets, but the most enormous chilli I have ever seen! Tween 1 and The Boy are usually pretty 'up' for most challenges but as this one came with a reward (a rather hefty one I might add!), they both accepted with glee.
Below is the rather hilarious result:
I have been waiting for an opportunity to unearth these photos, so thank you Tara Cain over at Sticky
Fingers for choosing 'C' as your word prompt for The Gallery this week. 'C' is for chilli, challenge or cruelty - take your pick!

That is brilliant! My husband also gets 11 year old to try chillies...cruel,but very amusing!
ReplyDeleteNoone forced them! It was just a bit of fun and they got what they wanted out of it ;)
DeleteHaHa!! Thats really funny - I remember when we were kids we made a concoction of a chill sauce drink and then dared each other to drink it! The results were not that great!
ReplyDeleteI reckon every kid, everywhere has some tale to tell about this kind of thing - puts hairs on their chest!
DeleteBrilliant, your poor kids! Did they get their rewards?!
ReplyDeleteYou bet! Tween 1 was promised a new mobile (after leaving hers on the cruise ship!) and The Boy chose a nerf gun...I told you they were heft rewards!
DeleteOw! Don't think I could manage that!
ReplyDeleteGreat take on the theme! Am guessing they'll get lots of story mileage out of that one at school too...
ReplyDeletegreat photos, they are very brave xx
ReplyDeletefunny, one way to get them to drink enough water!
ReplyDeletehaha, brilliant. C is for crying, which is what I'd be doing after trying this! Brave children x
ReplyDeleteThanks Nichola! He would have had to pay me a vast sum of money to get me to do it lol!
DeleteEeek! We had a chilli chocolate game, ooft those chocolates were disgusting. Brave kids!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! Wow your kids are tough and I think it's a fab way to get them to be more adventurous ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy husband is all for that...mussels, lobster, smelly cheese!
DeleteThese are cracking pictures Suzanne!! my hubby is equally as painful handing out challenges!! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Jaime, I was rather pleased with the photos and haven't had a chance to share them...until now!
DeleteGreat shots! this is the type of thing my dad would have us, and now his grandchildren, do!
ReplyDeleteI hope that my children have fond memories of it - the mobile phone and nerf gun they managed to acquire out of it might help!
DeleteGreat action snaps, loving the expressions hehe.
ReplyDeleteI remember when I was dared to do the same and I must have drank several pints of milk! x
I think it's every child's rite of passage, don't you?!
DeleteAs somebody who really doesn't like spicey food, I really sympathise with your children. Poor things. The question is did your OH eat one too?
ReplyDeleteThey weren't forced!! He likes to give them a little challenge and the middle one declined ;)
DeleteWhat brilliant photos!! That is amazing that they tried them though, I'm not sure any reward would make my lot try chillies
ReplyDeleteOH. MY. GOSH! LOVE your kids!
ReplyDeleteHa ha thank you! Children no 2 opted out of the challenge - can you blame her?!
DeleteHaha this is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThat must have been a substantial reward to get them to eat those!
ReplyDeleteHilarious! Although your OH clearly is desperate for some challenges in his life, isn't he?! BTW The linky didn't work when i clicked on it, nor the link to sticky fingers...Wonder if its just me as no one else has mentioned it...?
ReplyDeleteS
Thanks for letting me know about the linky button, I will investigate. The link in Sticky Fingers did work for me - odd!
DeleteThat's really funny! Love the resulting photos!!!! I love hot food - apparently the big chillies aren't as hot as the little nippers!
ReplyDeleteAha, so that explains the reason why there was not aftermath the following day!! Perhaps it wasn't worth a mobile and a nerf gun after all ;)
