The boy on the right is my son, the one on the left is my sister's son. They are blessed (although I'm not sure they would refer to it as that!) with 3 sisters between them. You can imagine our delight therefore, when these two comrades were born just 3 weeks apart.
This particular day, they had decided to don their rucksacks and go off on a Bear Grylls-style adventure - survival being the main aim. Thankfully, their trusty four-legged companion was leading the way!
These two cousins couldn't be more different if they tried. My nephew is the one with all the 'bright' ideas (and the one who manages to shin up trees like a monkey!). My son is rather more sedate, slightly less dare-devil and definitely the sensible one!
I have to admit that it hasn't always been plain sailing between these two boys. In the early days, they had their fair share of battles (usually physical ones!) but in recent years, they seem to have developed a mutual love and respect for one another's differences. They must be growing up.
Here is a picture from a few years ago - another survival technique being mastered!

How lovely to have two boys so close in age! I always wished my kids had cousins like this. It can be such a special relationship. I didn't have them either, though!
ReplyDeleteWe didn't have cousins that were our age growing up and I always wished that we did as I saw others who were very close to their cousins. It's definitely a relationship to be nurtured :)
DeleteHehe that's so cute! Did they absail down the stairs? Little adventurers! I have a cousin who was born about 8 months after me and we're very very close too. Cousins are the best sometimes!
ReplyDeleteI think they did - my dad set up this little asault course (he only had daughters!)
DeleteAh that's so lovely, it's amazing to have close cousins xx
ReplyDeleteI think so. I hope they appreciate one another as they get older. Thanks for commenting x
DeleteIt certainly is, I hope they appreciate each other as they get older x
DeleteLovely that they're so close now. I wonder what kind of adventures they'll have later on? Fantastic pics - my middle son is always tying rope/string to things, but he's never abseiled down the stairs! Brilliant :)
ReplyDeleteHa ha, I dread to think what kind of 'adventures' they will have in their teenage years!!
DeleteSounds like they have a lot of fun together. I had the best times with my cousin!
ReplyDeleteI am sure they will have lots of happy memories of fun together :) x
DeleteI can see those types of adventures being common round here too
ReplyDeleteBrilliant. All that's missing is a stick and a knotted hanky!
ReplyDeleteHow great that the boys are so close in age! The second picture looks like something I used to do, abseiling down the stairs - great fun x
ReplyDeleteI just adore that second picture! Brilliant :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great photo, can just imagine them disappearing off on their own adventure
ReplyDeleteWhat great buddies! I'm going to have to try rope climbing up the stairs! Looks fun!
ReplyDeleteAww what great friends - I love the first pic x
ReplyDeleteBoth are great photos!!!! And that's really nice that they are getting on much better now - finding a path between their differences!
ReplyDeleteI think it was just like sibling rivalry in a way...competition. Thanks for commenting x
