After reading Gary Chapman's book, 'The Five Love Languages' (if you haven't read it yourself, you really should), I discovered that my top 2 love languages are 'words of affirmation' and 'gifts'. In essence, nothing makes me feel more loved than a thoughtful present (emphasis on the word thoughtful!) and a text, email, letter or phone call to tell me how great I am - who doesn't like an ego boost every now and again?!
So when I was presented with this gift at christmas, one which I wasn't expecting, you can imagine my delight!
If you can't read what it says, here are the beautiful words
To Mummy,
You are the greatest mum anyone could ever have. You do so much for me even though you don't have to....
cook dinner
buy food to eat
get me gifts for my birthday
do jobs around the house
take paddy for walks.
Thank you for being such a good mum. Hope you have a great christmas!
I love you!
Love from xxxxx
So why is this gift so precious to me?
1. It confirms that my daughter, despite her best attempts at proving otherwise (Every. Single. Day), really does love me!
2. It is the perfect combination of my two love languages - words and gifts
3. It cost no money, but the thoughtfulness behind it is worth more than a million pounds!
4. This gift will last forever - I can take a sneaky peak on days when I'm feeling a failure/unappreciated/over-worked (insert whatever word fits negative feeling of that particular day!)
What was your favourite Christmas present of 2012?
I am linking this post up with Mich at Mummy from the Heart's R2BC Linky.

That is the sort of present you will keep for ever and get out to read from time to time, isn't it.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is....probably when she is a mother too!
DeleteI remember my middle son bringing home a gift from school, it was an empty, decorated box. But the note attached explained that it was a box filled with kisses, cwches and love. So if I ever missed him I could open the box. Best present ever. Xxx
ReplyDeleteI can imagine. I bet that's one you will treasure forever :)

ReplyDeleteAh thank you, I guess it's good to be moved?!
Deletewhat a lovely gift, seems your daughter has been brought up well too! Weirdly one of my fave christmas presents was a basket of purple goodies for the kitchen....lots of gagdets all in purple....from my mum. Husband thought it bizarre but they wre perfect as they are the kind of things you want but would never by yourself....and they all match my kitchen colour scheme !
ReplyDeleteI think these presents are special because they demonstrate how much thought has gone in to them...thanks for commenting :)
DeleteThat was so lovely - something you will treasure for the rest of your life - you are so right - these are the best presents - so great to feel so warmly appreciated! X.

ReplyDeleteThat's lovely :). I can never work out which love language I am...I think it's all 5. But whenever my husband forgets my birthday, I think that maybe gifts is my main one...
ReplyDeleteLovely. What a wonderful gesture. Lovely handwriting too.
ReplyDeleteAwwww, that's lovely :) x
ReplyDeletethat is so special! Totally agree things they make are worth so much more than any bought present. We have also started a blesssings jar after reading your post the other day (well it is technically a money box rather than a jar but the boys are enjoying posting little bits of paper into it) I can't wait to read what they are writing as they have been posting so much. Thanks for the idea. xxx
