Fitness

On hearing that this week's Gallery theme was 'Fitness', I knew immediately which photo snap to use.  Yet again, a moment where I was unable to locate my shiny new camera, but instead turned to the trusty old iphone.

This photo fulfills two things for me:

i)  I am defnitely part of the 'gang' which believes that modern-day kids don't exercise enough.  On returning home from school, my three children will nearly always opt for lounging on the sofa in front of the TV, or staring at the computer screen, whilst munching on a biscuit!  I am conscious that after a hard day at school, they do need to relax and unwind, but I try to limit the time spent 'vegging' and encourage some other form of activity.  Rarely does this involve any form of exercise, but on this occasion it did, hurrah!

ii) Being in constant competition with one another, any activity invariably ends badly - shouting, aggression and on occasion, physical violence! On this particuar sunny afternoon in September, DD2 took it upon herself to teach DS how to skip.  Yes, he is 8 years old and to my horror, I discovered that he could not skip - what are schools teaching our children these days?!  The two of them spent 20 minutes together, one learning from the other, in harmony - a virtual miracle and well-worthy of a snap!

  1. How lovely! My little girl has been skipping like a pro since she was 3. She taught her big (middle) brother who loves it too.

  3. Great photo! Skipping it seems is a difficult skill to master, B Lloyd learnt pretty quickly when she was about 3 but lots of her school class can't skip and she is always asking me why they can't!

    1. DD2 sees herself as a bit of a skipping pro! I think it's about coordination and determination, neither of which my son is blessed with lol!

  8. Me too - I agree with the points about unwinding but not vegging. It sounds like a lovely evening and rewarding too.

  9. I like your snap. :o) And I encourage my daughters to move too, and to play outside. The more you move, the better...

  10. Skipping is lots of fun but can get very competitive in this house!
